Tiny Towne Preschool Special Programs

Art Exploration

We are a Reggio inspired program facilitating individualized expression in art. Children are provided a variety of materials and mediums to create in both individual and group art activities. Along with daily creative opportunities, the children learn about and are exposed to famous artists. Inspired by their works, the children explore a collection of art styles and periods.

 Gross Motor/Gym Days

The program provides opportunities for daily participation in physical activity through music and movement and gross motor games. Along with our regular music and movement, we have gym days monthly which target skills such as balance, strength, co-ordination and flexibility. Regular outdoor play is also part of our program. Outdoor time includes walking, running, games, climbing, outdoor safety and co-operating in a group.

 Music

Music and singing are a regular part of our daily routine at Tiny Towne. Music promotes creativity, coordination, social interaction and communication, self-esteem and memory. It also helps to boost children’s vocabulary and language skills, teaches them to recognize patterns and sequences, and helps to develop awareness of rhyme and rhythm. Along with regular exposure to music in the classroom, we also have monthly music days. Children are exposed to an array of classroom instruments and early music concepts in age-appropriate lessons.

Literacy

Early literacy is promoted through play and structured activities. Children are encouraged through language development, daily interactive story time, a home reading program for sharing, music and singing, exploration of shapes and colors, name recognition and through many other creative outlets. Tiny Towne follows the Handwriting Without Tears program, a developmentally appropriate way of exposing children to letters using a variety of sensory and hands- on experiences, combining it with strategies from Animated Literacy.

Star for the Day

In recognition of the diverse and unique children in our preschool, we have a new program that will highlight each child in the classroom at three different times in the school year. When it is their turn, each child will have the opportunity to share special items from home, be a special helper in the classroom that day, and bring home a certificate to commemorate the occasion. Parents will be sent photos from the day as well as information on their children’s successes in school and what skills we are working on developing.
